HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Human Resource Management teaching is designed to prepare students to achieve a career in the field of human resources. The educational objective of the teaching is to prepare students to be successful HR managers and to use the HRM skills acquired in organizations. Students will be involved in teaching and will be able to apply concepts through critical thinking developing skills to be used in both personal and professional life. In addition, the teaching provides the student with the opportunity to have an academic program in human resource management entirely in English. The comparative approach used fosters development and analysis orientation through the adoption of a learning-by-doing teaching approach. Students have direct access to a network of skills and experiences that are useful in expanding the body of knowledge through keynote and project work learning. Students will gain knowledge of the main models in the field of HR, the frameworks for designing different HR practices, the complex interactions between HR practices and employee behaviors.
Although the course does not require specific prerequisites, it assumes that students have acquired a basic knowledge of business and organizational dynamics during their university studies. Nonetheless, the course takes into account any heterogeneity in the basic preparation of the students, providing the necessary tools to balance any uneven situation.
Teaching "Human Resource Management" provides students with theoretical, methodological tools and practical case studies to understand how human resource management systems are applied in organizations to support organizational strategy, improve efficiency and flexibility, increase productivity and performance, and ensure compliance with employment laws. For these reasons, the course will cover the fundamental themes of human resource management and in particular: definition and understanding of the role and function of the human resource; HR knowledge, competencies and skills; HRM and its context; the strategic planning process in the organization; Person-Organization; the legal environment for human resource management; employer branding; the processes of recruiting and selecting new employees; training, learning and managing employees; performance management and appraisal; workplace safety; compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion, HR technology, workplace design.
Teaching will be mainly oral, encouraging dialogue and discussion with students, in order to create a stimulating environment and to develop a critical spirit and ability to judge. Multimedia contents will be used in order to improve and exemplify the topics of the course, as well as the use of flipped classroom to assess the progress of the preparation and make the teaching more engaging. Attendance at the course is strongly recommended
The knowledge and skills identified in the paragraph of the objectives will be verified through final oral exams, with possible written tests and the creation of multimedia project work (both with prior
communication to the students) in order to assess the progress of the course and be able to recalibrate the course based on the results achieved. The evaluation, in addition to taking into account the concrete acquisition of the topics covered, considers the students' judgment, communication and interpersonal skills, commitment and motivation demonstrated throughout the course. The grade is expressed in thirtieths and passing requires a score between 18 (sufficiency) and 30 cum laude (excellence), based on the level of skills and competences achieved.
